Dick’s Forum – No. 18
Dick Walker Trio
Gary Hatch and Tim Porter, both of Kerrville, Texas are the mainstays and stars of the DWT. Accomplished, fluent musicians, each has a had a musical career in this area of Texas spanning numerous years and relationships.
Gary, the bassist, graces the trio with his humor, energy and musicianship. Quick with his musical wit nothing is a surprise and he is one of those rare musicians with a sense of playing the right thing at the right time. He is a regular member of Harry and the Hightones and Part of the Problem and formerly with the big band Sentimental Journey.
Tim has played and studied the guitar since his youth. Be it a chord, scale, or musical style, Tim has “paid his dues” learning to master these elements of music. His personal challenge is to be able to play any musical style at hand. From Bach to blues, jazz to show tunes, country to the idols of guitar technique and style, he is a perpetual student of his craft. He has appeared as soloist with Symphony of the Hills, and as a regular part of the Jurazzic Cowboys, Harry and the Hightones, and Part of the Problem.
Our concerts are spontaneous and creative. We’ve never used “set sheets” or song lists, rather Dick starts playing a fiddle tune, usually something upbeat and fun. From there, whether it be a few minutes or a few hours, music flows from one song to another, in and out of a variety of musical styles including fiddle tunes, western swing, celtic, show tunes, hymns, jazz, Bach, rock, standards, and whatever else may come to mind.
Audiences have included the Bank of the Hills Summer Concerts in Kerrville, The Texas Arts and Crafts Fair, The Devine Artists Association, Summer Concerts in Leakey, D-Day concert in Utopia, and numerous churches and private activities.
The Dick Walker Trio has a CD titled A Concert Sampler, a collection of their various styles and musical interests. This CD is available through Dick’s web site.
